If there is one thing that has kept us united over a difficult last 24 months – it’s culture. The culture in our sounds, the culture in our content, the culture we’ve craved in our interactions and the culture we’ve adopted in this new normal we now live.
One brand that has recognised the importance of honouring culture as we bring 2021 to a close is the 201-year old, premium scotch whiskey house, Johnnie Walker. The Scottish-born spirit-maker has recently launched a brand new campaign dubbed the Walkers Programme, which looks to curate and share cultural experiences in a fresh bid to connect South Africans in new ways. The Walkers Programme will see a number of key movers and shakers including Rich Mnisi, Nasty C, and a Karabo Poppy working with the brand to curate authentically South African experiences that will deliver bold, beautiful and breathtaking content to the masses.
We had the opportunity to speak to key influencers who have worked with Johnnie Walker in recent times, just to find out what the famous whiskey brand meant to them and what they thought of the upcoming campaign. Kamo Mdosakeng, Andile Ncube and Langa Mavuso all took a moment to speak about the impact that Johnnie Walker has left on their own lives.
A new era for ‘Keep Walking’

It’s no secret that Johnnie Walker is a timeless classic. Rich, exclusive but still very much inclusive, with a little bit for everyone, from black all the way up to the aged 18 years. Being in partnership with the Johnnie Walker family has been a dream come true. I’ve watched the brand very closely over the years and what I’m most impressed with is how it brings so many different people from different walks of life together. I completely stan a brand that is multifaceted, in tune with its youthfulness & remembers that what’s most important is the people… the consumers.

Born 179 hrs from me and 176 years before I’d be born, Mr Johnnie Walker had no idea that his story and journey would have such a huge impact on my life. Very much like ‘Johnnie’, I lost my dad and fast realised that no one’s coming to save me; I must carry my name to greatness as he did. To me, Johnnie Walker is not just a drink, it’s a story, a story of 1 man who believed and made the impossible, possible and as I continue to walk from where he left off I remember.
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for”
It’s not just a drink I’ve partnered up with it’s an aspiration and a reminder to…keep walking.

Over the past 3 years I’ve had the incredible honor of partnering with Johnnie Walker in amplifying their motto of ‘Keep Walking’ and through the journey they’ve supported my music projects and tours and this has been an incredibly fruitful collaboration between myself and the brand. Johnnie Walker is family to me. I’m excited for the year ahead.
