As a former GQ-best-dress-reader winner, Desmond Phala – AKA Junior Springbok on all social media platforms – knows a thing or two about dressing up. As the age-old rap lyric goes, he’s found himself “All dressed up with nowhere to go” in recent weeks – due to the national lockdown. But that hasn’t dampened his spirits one bit!
Regarded as one of the most exciting fashion influencers in the country, Desmond has not let the government-enforced lockdown prevent him from delivering beautiful content to his followers on a regular basis. From his finest throwback looks, to some of the most handsome outfits he’s been able to put together behind doors, Desmond has proven that quarantine may be temporary, but drip is forever!

We took the time to speak to the Pretoria-based content creator to learn more about his creative process during lockdown
Moziak Magazine: How are you social distancing during this period?
Junior Springbok: Hi everyone, thank you so much for having me. I am home during this period, home with my parents and my not so little, little sister.
I am on serious lockdown mode. I dont even do most of the essential runs in the house, lol.
MM: Where do you wish you were right now?
JS: Right now, I was I was away on vacation. I’d love to be either by the coast or in Mpumalanga sipping on some fine champagne and enjoying a sunset with someone special.
Or out with my friends enjoying some good R&B/Soul Sessions drinking Wine!

MM: Name 3 positive things about the world almost coming to a standstill
JS: This is giving people time to rediscover themselves and catch up on all the important things that can be easily missed due to this fast paced world.
This is probably the biggest test for our President and so far he is doing a commendable job. When the pandemic ends and South Africa is back to normal, let it be known that President Cyril
Ramaphosa will go down in history as the greatest President to come out of the new South Africa. I cant wait to tell my kids I was alive during this moment in time
This time is allowing some of us to reconnect with our families and work on prioritzing family time even post Covid-19.
MM: Name 5 things you plan to achieve whilst in “quarantine”
JS: I want to master video editing using Adobe premier pro
To watch all shows I intend on watching (Netflix and Showmax)
Expanding my mind as a Creative
Completing most of my online classes
Reading & Finishing a Book/ And learning how to cook!

MM: What surprising item made your shopping list?
JS: Lol, shaving cream for my head. I couldn’t take it anymore
MM: Did you stock up on additional toilet paper?
JS: Nope. We bought as per usual.
MM: Have any important plans or activities of yours been cancelled/postponed because of the coronavirus?
JS: Yes, I was planning my dad’s big 60th Birthday celebration (oh, what a milestone) and now we are forced to enjoy it indoors just the 4 of us! This makes me so sad
MM: In a year’s time when you look back, what do you think you will be saying about this period?
JS: I think I’ll probably talk about how this period changed my whole life, for the better, of course, from my career all the way to my spiritual health-set. oh, what a time to be alive man.

MM: What advice do you have for people who are struggling with the idea of social distancing?
JS: I know it’s not easy, it isn’t for anybody really. I have good days then I have really bad days where I just want to spend it in bed watching series and that is okay!!!! Nobody has the manual on how to cope with Covid-19 and its different for all of us anyways. I might not have the correct advice but here’s my two cents: pray, drink your water or wine if you have, do your chores and spend valuable time with whoever you’re quarantining with.
MM: What are you looking forward to the most when the coronavirus pandemic is over?
JS: I am really looking forward to challenging myself to still live the same way I was during covid-19. This includes doing the more important tasks. Doing everything I need to do before going out to a busy world. I cannot wait to build relationships and meet new people too!
