5 Minutes With G-West

I caught up with 27 year old Ghanaian Afrobeats artist “G-West”, his full name is George Kofi Mensah and he is based in Accra, Ghana. G-West describes himself as meticulous, patient and easygoing. He is originally from Kumasi, Ghana but moved to Accra to pursue his passion for music. 

G-West has always had a passion for music but he fell in love with the process of making music when he recorded his first song. His music career started in 2009 and he decided to do it full time in 2014. He has been in the music industry for over 10 years. His genre is Afrobeats and has featured the likes of Bisa Kdei, Joey B and Tneeya. Gwest dreams to collaborate with Mugeez, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Drake.

Through his music he is hoping to share love and positivity to all his listeners and remind them that the universe has a purpose for everyone and they must try their best to find their purpose. He derives inspiration from the things that he goes through and also from experiences of his peers. Some of his songs are stories that he made up, it’s all in his imagination. G-West usually spends his day in the studio, if not he is watching a movie or catching on some sleep.

“Don’t expect anything from anyone in the music industry. You will be disappointed.”

Where do you see yourself and your music career in the next three years? 

“I want to be well known in Ghana and Africa. I would love to positively impact the world with my sound and be one of the artists at the forefront of African music pushing our sound to the rest of the world.”
