Nigeria
Nigerian leaders ordered a shutdown of all schools in the country as each day this week presented new information about the coronavirus in the country. As it currently stands, there are 12 confirmed cases of the virus in the country.
South Africa
After ordering a State of Disaster at the beginning of the week, South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has taken continued action throughout the week – ordering South African restaurants and bars to stop serving alcohol after 6 PM on weekdays, among other preventative measures. South Africa’s number of confirmed cases of Covid 19 reached 202 this week.
Kenya
Anxiety has gripped the streets of Kenya following the first confirmed patient last week. Since then, the number has risen to a total of 7 confirmed cases this week.
Ghana
The Ghana government imposed a ban on all public gatherings including conferences, funerals, festivals, political rallies, Church services, Islamic worship for 4 weeks. Along with a travel ban, the government hopes these measures can curb the number of infected individuals – which currently sits at 16.
Namibia
Namibia reported its third case of Covid 19 after a 61-year-old German arrived in the country carrying the disease. Worryingly, the man had first travelled through Zimbabwe.
Cape Verde
Cape Verde confirmed its first coronavirus case, the government said in a statement. The patient is a 62-year-old British citizen who entered the country on March 9 and began showing symptoms on March 16, the statement added.
