As we’re taking in the news of our extended lockdown, navigating what a long weekend actually is in the context of “Stay Home” and for those that celebrate Easter, coming to terms with celebrating this occasion in isolation… mindfulness comes to mind.
Chatting to K Naoimi, this theme is very evident. Here’s what we found out.
Moziak Magazine: How are you social distancing during this period?
K Naomi Noinyane: I am limiting myself to my house and my neighbourhood. I have been home since the presidents’ address last Sunday, only going out to essential errands.
MM: Where do you wish you were right now?
KNN: Truly, I am happy being at home and just taking in my space. We spend a lot of time out of the house, going to work and attending meetings for more work, so much so that the home space is neglected. I am glad to be home, organising and connecting.
MM: Name 3 positive things about the world almost coming to a standstill
KNN:
- We have time now. To connect on a meaningful level with friends and family. W/o interruptions
- The earth is getting a much-needed breather and recuperating from our footprint
- This is a good time for mindfulness – assessing oneself and really adapting to the new status quo
MM: Name 5 things you plan to achieve whilst in “quarantine”
KNN:
- Achieve to some extent mindfulness
- Working out a sharper business model
- Full body wellness
- Rest
- Start a new hobby
MM: What surprising item made your shopping list?
KNN: Tons of garlic!
MM: Did you stock up on additional toilet paper?
KNN: No, we have to be responsible and stop the stockpiling.
MM: Have any important plans or activities of yours been cancelled/postponed because of the coronavirus?
KNN: I think everyone is learning to adapt and there have definitely been some postponements due to the pandemic. But it’s for the greater good of society. There will be plenty of time in the future to re-engage those collaborations.
MM: In a year’s time when you look back, what do you think you will be saying about this period?
KNN: We survived! But it was wild! Lol. I think I will look at it fondly. This really is the time for reinvention and what we take from this could help the betterment of society and our personal selves.
MM: What advice do you have for people who are struggling with the idea of social distancing?
KNN: Build a routine so you don’t get bored or overwhelmed. Revisit your earlier hobbies before life and career took over. Get comfortable and reintroduce yourself to the person you are now.
MM: What are you looking forward to the most when the coronavirus pandemic is over?
KNN: A lot, but mostly kicking off my #freeyourfierce wellness project which will focus on full body and mind wellness.
