Moziak Magazine: How are you social distancing during this period?
Rashid Mugeez: I personally enjoy keeping to myself and enjoying something called peace of mind… so during this period I’m spending time at home. Luckily, I have a home studio and that’s my ultimate safe corner.
MM: Where do you wish you were right now?
RM: As an artist, I wish I was on the road showcasing my work. Being everywhere that my fans want me to be.
MM: Name 3 positive things about the world almost coming to a standstill
RM:
- It’s allowed us to have more introspection about life. What’s important and what is not.
- The earth is getting a chance to breathe…
- We’re paying more attention to our immune systems with regards to what we eat now
MM: Name 5 things you plan to achieve whilst in “quarantine”
RM: My team and I had plans to make donations to Community1, Site 15 in Tema, Ghana. That’s my hood, the birthplace of R2bees, and that was achieved. Other than this, I plan to spend the rest of my time making more music. I’ll be pushing some of my pre singles on social media before my main EP is released.
MM: What surprising item made your shopping list?
RM: Nothing.
MM: Did you stock up on additional toilet paper?
RM: I don’t think corona had to remind us about that lol.
MM: Have any important plans or activities of yours been cancelled/postponed because of the coronavirus?
RM: Yes, a concert in the UK, Afro Nation Puerto Rico, Afro Nation Portugal, and R2bees live in NY just to mention a few. Quite a couple of shows and concerts have been put on hold because of the virus.
MM: In a year’s time when you look back, what do you think you will be saying about this period?
RM: I would only say it was a true test of time, but we made it.
MM: What advice do you have for people who are struggling with the idea of social distancing?
RM: I think it’s an unprecedented situation for many of us who are not used to a solitude lifestyle so it’s understandable that people may be struggling. I would just say to them that they should remain safe and stay calm till it’s all over.
MM: What are you looking forward to the most when the coronavirus pandemic is over?
RM: I can’t wait to see all my loved ones and be back on stage. It’s all about the music.
