From colourful threads to flavourful foods, this year’s Heritage Day was a reminder of everything we love about our beautiful country.
As the national government has said, Heritage Day on 24 September recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day.

A Special Heritage Day
2020 has been a year like no other. The constant threat of Covid-19 has forced us all to reconsider how we operate and life during lockdown has led to far more restricted celebrations than we are used to. However, that didn’t do anything to stop South Africans from celebrating their national heritage in a big day:

Along with traditional #HeritageDay celebrations, the President Cyril Ramaphosa encouraged the nation to take part in the viral Jerusalema Challenge and many citizens duly obliged.
#BraaiDay
It can’t be a day in South Ahh with a bit of controversy and we got some in the form of a rival hashtag #BraaiDay. Braai Day has been a contentious issue for a number of years and this time around a series of brands and commenters attempted to revive the hashtag in a bid to outshine the Heritage Day buzz. Needless to say, Mzansi wasn’t having it.
