A man of many talents, our official photographer, By Xavier, is out with a new single titled “Beat It Strong”.
We couldn’t let the day go by without catching up with him and giving you some insight into his musical journey.
Moziak Magazine: Congratulations on your new single release. We couldn’t be prouder. Can you give us the low down on the “Beat Is Strong”?
By Xavier: Thank you kindly. “Beat Is Strong” is an uplifting song that has touched many people’s hearts in such a short time. I think so many people can relate to the theme of fighting for your dreams and realising your goals, so it feels universal. In a world filled with songs with very little meaning, this song stands out for its message.
MM: Not many people know that music has been a big part of your life. Can you share a bit about your musical journey and some highlights?
BX: I was a signed recording artist before I became a photographer! I started to DJ when the first raves came to South Africa and I was a club DJ at some of the best spots in Jozi way before I had even owned a camera. I recorded 3 albums, toured internationally and have 2 SAMA award nominations for Best POP album of the year. Music has been a huge aspect in my life and will always be my first love.
MM: If you look back in a year’s time, what do you hope to have achieved with your music?
BX: A year is such a short period of time in a music career, so I wanna look back and see more collaborations with international and local artists, more people enjoying my music worldwide and the basis for an international tour schedule in 2022.

MM: Which musicians would you like to collaborate with? Both locally and internationally.
BX: Locally, I’m recording a song with Nadia Nakai. I’d love to work with Black Coffee of course. I love what Locknville are doing too. Internationally, definitely Tiesto, Diplo and Yotto.
MM: What do you think the South African music scene is missing?
BX: Songs with really good lyrics. Music lately is producer based, hook based and lacks depth: it’s all about being catchy, but in 5 years it will be meaningless. Let’s not lose the art of songwriting, of meaningful lyrics and songs that will not age with time.

MM: You’re the photographer behind most of our iconic magazine covers. What do you love most about being on set and behind the lens?
BX: I love the excitement that each project brings. Each person photographed is unique: photography is about unveiling the secret behind someone’s eyes. That’s where the story lies, and my job is to bring it out so that the viewer can interpret it their own way.
MM: We classify you a true creative. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
BX: I’m not afraid to fail. Failure is non-existent. Art is growth and adventure. It is freedom. Once you lose your fear, you’re free.
MM: Where can we get your new single and is there a music video coming?
BX: “Beat Is Strong” is out on all major music platforms today, Friday, 18 September. The music video will be released the following week. Find me on Instagram @xaviersaer and www.byxavier-music.com
