Question: To what heights are you willing to go for something you breathe for? Our next Halls #BreatheForIt Masterclass Campaign mentee Boemo Diale is literally reaching the stars for hers. Joining her fellow alumnus Levy Pooe in Braam, Boemo spent handsome time scaling four stories of Kitchener’s Carvery Bar, before splashing it with an elaborate street mural.
Born in 2000 in the City of Gold, Diale is a multidisciplinary artist knee-deep in her pursuit of Film and Television at Wits University. Although she was born in Jozi, Diale has been exposed to the racial matrix in all its different forms, from Rustenburg to Mahikeng.
Her artistry mirrors the internal workings of her inner self that has had to find a place between rural and urban existences. Furthermore, her works touch on the nuances of gender, race, culture, identity, mental health, and the spiritual. Duly playful and young, the catharsis of her artistry manifests in reflecting the internal workings of her rich inner world. A host of her works reference traditional clay pot-making, African symbolism, permaculture and scarification.
Expressing gratitude in her Instagram post, Boemo shared:
“Earlier this year, I was picked as one [of] the 9 @halls_sa mentees taken under @karabo_poppy’s wing to learn about the art of murals. 5 weeks ago, I was tasked with this side of the Kitchener’s building. Four days by myself on four-story scaffolding, running between classes and an internship. The biggest artwork I’ve ever created but not for long. Biggest thank yous and gratitude to @halls_sa for the opportunity. I met some amazing creators and artists along the way too.”
Blue is a dual colour defined as the expression of sadness and an overwhelming sense of peace. The creative prowess of the #BreatheForIt mentees has turned a nightclub into a balanced hotspot for turn-ups and bourbon-smooth wind-downs.
