This year’s ceremony will be tightly contested!
The 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards are almost upon us and this week all the noise was about the 2020 nominees who were unveiled over the weekend. It may come as no surprise to learn that Sarkodie led the way with an impressive 11 nods in several catagories at this year’s ceremony.
The VGMAs are the biggest awards in the Ghanaian music industry and over the years the ceremony has helped crown some of the most impressive talents in Africa.
Ghanaian music continues to rise year on year as tastemakers in a number of key genres continue to impress. From Hiplife to Hip Hop, the stakes are higher than ever and a number of key artists are looking to make their mark.
Sarkodie led the way with 11 nominations in some of the most coveted categories including “Most Popular Song of the Year” and the blockbuster “artiste of the year” award.
Kofi Kinaata’s ”Things Fall Apart” was nominated for the Highlife Song of the Year with Sarkodie’s Saara’s hit single also nominated in the same category.
Kwame Eugene’s “Obiaato”, Adina’s “Sika”, Fameye “Notin a Get”, Sista Afia’s “Corner Corner”, Dada Hafco’s “Story” and King Promise “Bra” have received nominations for Highlife Song of the Year.
The Gospel Song of the Year category has the likes of Joyce Blessing (Repent), Nacee (Mpaebo), Diana Hamilton (W’asem), Celestina Donkor (Agbebolo), Joe Mettle (Mehia Wo Yesu) and MOG Music (Halleluyah) would competing for the accolade.
The 2020 VGMAs take place on the 18th of May 2020. Who do you predict will take home the biggest prizes?
