It is no subject up for debate that the Halls #BreatheForIt Masterclass campaign has breathed new life not only in the mentees involved but also in the streets of Braam. A standing testament to this is Leigh Le Roux, one of the mural artists under the aegis of Karabo Poppy, who blessed the walls of the one and only TOMS Braamfontein with the delicate touch and eye of artistry.
An illustrator and designer at heart, Le Roux relishes in the creation of novel things and learning about other means to convert mere images in his mind into gorgeous works. Somewhere in Jo’burg, at the tender age of nine, he began drawing, inspired by cartoons, the same ones he delights in bringing to life with the paint and the brush. Le Roux is also a versatile artisan, able to realise the total potential of his creations technologically thanks to his background as a graphic designer/illustrator and UI designer.

In a gracious Instagram post, alongside fellow mentee Buhle Ramalepa, Le Roux expressed his feelings about his work with Halls and Poppy’s mentorship:
“I got the pleasure to collab with @buhle_ramalepa on her first mural on the side of @toms_braam thanks to @karabo_poppy and @halls_sa Breathing Spaces
#artmemes #artistmemes #joburgart #joburgmural #breatheforit #southafricanmural #dontsleeponus”
Le Roux is well on his way. Having started so early in his life sharpening his handiwork and having come so far, he epitomises one of Halls’ campaigning hashtags: #UngapheliUmoya.
