Festive fever is in full effect as all roads lead to South Africa’s multicultural hub, Free State, for a taste of live music and cuisine with the inaugural AfroFeast Music and Food Festival pegged for Saturday, 19 November 2022 at the Ramblers Club, Bloemfontein.
With a soft launch taking place last year, the inaugural AfroFeast festival, a year in the making, seeks to be a trailblazing annual event that cultivates the Free State tourism industry providing a socio-economic value chain through a multisensory experience with its delectable combination of soul food; spykos, chisa nyama and more unique meals from the Food Village stalls in addition to premium beer, ciders, cocktails and spirits from beloved and budding alcohol brands at the Beer Garden.

Furthermore, the cuisine comes complete with a roof-tearing festival line-up which boasts some of South Africa’s biggest artists namely, Cassper Nyovest, Msaki, Sun-El Musician K.O, Blaq Diamond, Stino Le Thwenny and Kwaito Legends – Arthur, Trompies and Thebe while showcasing thriving talent coming out of the Free State namely, LeGoody, DJ Tobetsa, 2Point1, DJ Fantas, DJ Konopo, DJ Tshegu, DJ Tshidye, DJ Candy, DJ Binnz, Troy Montshiwa, and Djemba Nation.
We caught up with Afrofeast festival founder and CEO, Kholofelo Maleka who shared with us the origin story, vision and mission of the events property in addition to how it will stand out from its events property contemporaries.

Moziak: What inspired the creation of AfroFeast?
Kholofelo: As an Events company, we were also affected negatively by the covid-19 pandemic, and we asked ourselves who else was affected and we found that musicians were also hard hit. Secondly, we also realized that Free State has a lot of aspiring chefs and food vendors. This inspired us to create a platform where they could all actively take part and that’s how AfroFeast was conceptualized.
Moziak: What will set AfroFeast apart from other music and food festivals in the market?
Kholofelo: Most of similar events depends a lot on prominent chefs and artists to attract the market but we decided to give focus to Free State based talent. A huge percentage of the talent performing on the AfroFeast Stage are Free State based and 100% of the food vendor are for the Free State. So, we’ve created a platform where we can celebrate unknown talent and expose them to the market.
Moziak: Why is it important to have such a festival as a flagship event for KM Holdings?
Kholofelo: As we have other events that we are involved with, this is also a great opportunity for us to contribute and give platform for aspiring talent to showcase their skills. We’ve enjoyed immense support with our other events, and we felt the need to create a festival that would have an economic impact to the free state landscape.
Moziak: For people traveling from other parts of SA to attend this festival, what tips can you share with them to make the most of this experience?
Kholofelo: Is for them to get ready to experience some of best Free State talented chefs and artists. Free State is filled with people with great hospitality and warm at heart. It’s going to be a feastful gathering and you wouldn’t want to miss what the Free State is about to showcase.
Moziak: Is there anything else lined up for KM Holdings in the near future?
Kholofelo: We have our annual events in February 2023 Intimate Sessions, April 2023 Dinaledi Gospel, June 2023 Warm Winter Nights and who knows we might decide on an international act.
