‘A Girl From Harare’ is the hotly anticipated sophomore EP by singer, songwriter and musician Gemma Griffiths, available now on all digital streaming platforms.
The 9 stunning tracks from this EP were written and recorded on a journey of over 500 days, through 10 different countries across the African continent. In a Landrover Defender, Gemma and film-maker Marc Neilson started an epic adventure which began in Cape Town, South Africa and included a trek through the Namibian desert, Mozambique’s Quirimba Archipelago as well as the East African coastline passing through Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable forest. ‘A Girl From Harare’ is a collection of stories Gemma lived along the way. It’s also a reflection of the lessons she carried with her from her home, Zimbabwe.
“I’m extremely proud of this EP. I loved exploring the continent and discovering myself along the way. I’ve evolved as an artist and grown immensely as a person through this journey on the road,” shares Gemma Griffiths.
The EP sparkles with production by some of Zimbabwe’s most gifted beatmakers. Bulawayo based Murphy Cubic (Kyla Blac) brings the magic on ‘Weather’ and ‘Down’, whilst the prolific DJ Tamuka (Davido, Jah Prayzah, Yemi Alade) comes through on ‘Raspberry’, ‘Don’t Worry’ and ‘Kwale’. The majority of the project reunites Gemma with longtime cohort, Charie Kay who produced her debut EP Pamwe. His other credits include Jacob Banks, Jaykae and Stylo G from the UK as well as Nox and Ammara Brown from Zimbabwe.
