Boity Thulo expanded her empire this month when she announced a new signature fragrance which looks set the change the perfume game in Mzansi. The likes of Dior, Chanel and other high-end European/Western brands were politely urged to step aside as a new player introduced herself to the fragrance industry: Boity Pink Sapphire, the rapper and presenter’s first Eau de Parfum.
In partnership with Halo Heritage, Boity announced her new EDP during heritage month and in her notes to the press she described it as being a fragrance for a “Powerful African Woman”.
The product’s description reads: “Pink Sapphire, the new signature fragrance from Boity, is a poetic balance of floral and mineral notes that aligns sensuality with strength, heart with mind and past with future. Delicate sugar and jasmine notes play against a tangible saltiness, with notes of wild marigold, French lavender and tangerine adding freshness and clarity. Harnessing the power of modern alchemy, the best of nature has been combined into a fragrant story about our inherent duality and the perfect harmony that exists within each of us. Moziak Magazine: There’s no better place to start than the great news which made headlines at the beginning of September: the launch of Boity Pink Sapphire. How have you felt about the reaction to your new fragrance across news and social media?
Boity: The response has been truly overwhelming. I am beyond grateful for all of the love and support I have received from not only my fans but my friends and family. It’s always nerve-wracking putting out something new and to see how well Boity Pink Sapphire has been received is just so moving.
MM: For the real enthusiasts out there, how would you describe Boity Pink Sapphire’s perfume notes?
Boity: Boity Pink Sapphire by Halo Heritage is a poetic balance of floral and mineral notes that aligns sensuality with strength, heart with mind and past with future. Delicate sugar and jasmine notes play against a tangible saltiness, with notes of wild marigold, French lavender and tangerine adding freshness and clarity.
MM: How did your collaboration with Halo Heritage come about for this creation?
Boity: It had always been a dream of mine to create my own fragrance and Halo Heritage felt like a perfect fit to bring this life to life. Their values mirror many of my own, namely their celebration of Black Excellence and creating products that celebrate and uplift African women.
MM: Tell us what inspired the bottle design?
Boity: The colour we chose for the bottle perfectly encapsulates the serenity and sensuality that Boity Pink Sapphire by Halo Heritage represents. The chain detail and the icon also holds quirky symbolism, an accent that is inspired by a necklace I wear often, and one that people always spot on me. The shape of the bottle also looks like gemstone which is quite fitting.
MM: Boity Pink Sapphire is described as “a scent for powerful African women”. Can you share your opinion on how a great fragrance can boost one’s confidence and define their character?
Boity: When you smell good, you feel good. Wearing a fragrance that you love gives you that extra boost you need. Whether it be for date night or a meeting, I want whoever wears Boity Pink Sapphire to feel confident from the moment they put it on.

MM: We particularly admire how you have pivoted your offering (we note recent comments about targeting a mature audience with this fragrance) – do you see yourself still making products for the youth in the future?
Boity: Definitely. This is an exciting time in my life and my career and you can look forward to a lot more to come.
MM: Which 5 celebrities and public figures (local and international please!) would you love to see using Boity Pink Sapphire?
Boity: Connie Ferguson
