‘Timeless’, Davido’s fourth studio album reached a momentous feat by bagging one million streams on streaming platform Boomplay just six hours after its release, proving to be his most anticipated album.
The 17-track album was released under his own recording house Davido Music Worldwide, Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment – featuring an array of impressive artists such as Mzansi’s very own Focalistic and Musa Keys, Skepta, Angelique Kidjo, Asake and The Cavemen.
Promoting this latest body of work, the superstar took to New York at the Union Square’s impressive Irving Plaza venue, where Moziak’s Ninel Musson was treated to the ultimate Davido experience. And although the event was sold-out, a throng of fans were still trying to get last minute tickets to access the unforgettable experience with the muso.
The energy in the room was nothing short of incredible, from the moment Davido walked onto stage. Accompanied by a live band, Davido took fans onto a musical journey as he performed his early classics up to his latest offering.
Nigerian superstar Davido in Johannesburg, South Africa
The tour also touched down on Mzansi’s shores, where he staged a listening session in Johannesburg, hosted by Martell. The brand has collaborated with the Nigerian superstar under the banner ‘Martell X Davido‘, where they revealed its new bottle which will only be made available in stores soon.
With a diverse poll of features, South Africa’s very own “Venda Michael Jackson” Musa Keys be part of this ‘Timeless‘ project, where he further cements his talent on the song ‘Unavailable’.
The song has an Afrobeat feel with the log drums that keeps it to the Amapiano tempo, which can also be heard on a song that features muso Focalistic. With the king of Afrobeat Davido embracing the Amapiano wave, this begs the question – is Amapiano the future of music in Africa?
This impressive album topped the Apple Music chart in over 17 countries in less than 24 hours after release, and peaked at number 2 on the US Apple Music chart in an African record.
The Timeless title takes lead from two of his previous albums namely ‘A Good Time’ – which is sophomore album and his third studio album titled ‘A Better Time’.
