I caught up with the beautiful Gyakie, just to pick her brain and see how everything is going in her music career. Gyakie is an Afro-fusion Ghanaian artist who is under the management of Flip The Music. She is a 20 year old student currently studying International Business. She describes herself as someone who is unique. The name “Gyakie” is a derivative of “Jackie” which she formed by merging her local dialect, Twi and English. In Twi, “Gy” is pronounced as “J” hence the spelling, Gyakie. She describes her genre of music as Afro-fusion.
Gyakie says that her passion for music stems from back home. Growing up, her family was constantly listening to highlife music. Gyakie’s main goal is to create music that would change lives, music that would speak to people. With just a year and a few months in the music industry, Gyakie has stolen the hearts of fellow Ghanaians with over 120 000 YouTube views on her single Never Like This. She gets her inspiration to write from situations she finds herself in, the environment, and sometimes the future.
Her day consists of listening to beats, going to school, studying, writing music, reading her daily devotional, cooking and dancing to loud music. Her top favourite artists are Asa, Omar Sterling, Sarkodie, Efya and Popcaan. In the next 3 years, Gyakie sees herself on an international stage. She says that she would love to work with Stonebwoy.
