Burna Boy and Wizkid both won Grammys for the Best Global Music Album and Best Music Video categories respectively.
Nigerian musicians, Burna Boy and Wizkid won Grammy Awards for categories they were nominated in.
This was announced by the Recording Academy on Sunday evening.
Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category after being a nominee for a second consecutive year. The album “Twice as Tall” was nominated alongside albums such as FU Chronicles by Antibalas, Agora by Bebel Gilberto and others.
Wizkid’s video with Beyonce, “Brown Skin Girl” won Best Music Video.
“I know say one day e go better; I go carry grammy, because anything wey better require planning,” Burna Boy tweeted after winning the award.
The 63rd Grammy Awards is being held in Los Angeles. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s edition had no audience, and performers were separated onto five stages, arranged in a circle inside the Los Angeles Convention Center to maintain social distancing.
Burna Boy and Wizkid become the first Nigerian celebrities to win at the Grammys following a string of nominations for singers such as King Sunny Ade, and Femi Kuti.
