Singer, song writer, artist, actress and TV personality, Letoya Makhene, is no stranger to the limelight and her latest offering Qinisela is an inspirational message of hope. Every time I listen to it I get inspired.
This gospel inspired song, co-written by her equally famous father, Blondie Makhene, leaves one feeling strengthened.
On her working with her father Letoya says: “He is such an inspiration to me. He knows me better than anyone, so he knows how to get the best out of me and push me beyond what I think is my limit. It won’t be the last song we do together.”
Through Qinisela one gets a sense of Letoya’s maturity not just in the lyrics but in the beat as well. Qinisela is Letoya’s message to fans to never give up regardless of the situation one might be facing. It is also an interpretation of a journey she herself has travelled.
Qinisela is a love inspired Afro-Pop song that speaks to something that we all wish to subscribe to on this journey of love.
It may sound as though Letoya is swaying towards the Afro-Pop arena, but she feels that music isn’t genre specific but more about finding a song that appeals to a person. And Qinisela did that and more. It has brought her full circle and somewhat back home. Back to the type of music that she loves doing even though she might drop a dance song from time to time.
The lyrics of Qinisela need no interpretation, but the message comes at a time when the nation’s women and children need strength to weather the storm of abuse.
One thing is certain, strength comes from believing and not losing hope just like Letoya says: “Ngizo bambelela kuwe, angisoze ngilahle ithemba lam.”
Qinisela will not just pick you up, it will move you holistically. Currently on a radio and TV promo tour for the new single, one can look out for more music from this talented soul who is using her music to inspire, strengthen, motivate and heal others.
I give Qinisela a well deserved 4 out of 5.
