1.What city are you currently in and what do you love most about this city?
I live in Johannesburg, fondly referred to as Egoli – City of Gold! I love it because this is truly a city of hustlers, movers and shakers! If you are willing to work for it – you CAN make it happen here!
2.Your favourite hangout spot in your home town is?
My hometown is Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and truth be told my friends were always at our house. My mum encouraged it to be a safe place where all of us could always hang out, swim, braai, listen to music. There were lots of bedrooms, so my friends always had a place to crash. There was always noise in the house! I loved it!
3.A song that perfectly describes your country right now?
Particula – Nasty C, Major Lazer & DJ Maphorisa.
4.What is on your music playlist currently?
A very diverse playlist, from Rowlene to Lauv, Cardi B to Ariana.
5.What are you reading?
‘The Disruptors – Social entrepreneurs reinventing business and society’ by Kerryn Krige & Gus Sibler.
6.What would you say is the biggest artistic impact Africa has had on the world?
It’s a biased answer of course, but what do we not do that inspires the world? Our music, fashion, art and photography are mimicked the world over. The biggest international recording artists are coming here to collab with our artists! The editor of British Vogue is from Ghana! Everything we create has global impact – I’m truly proud to be African.
7.What is that one African dish you wish the entire world knew about?
In Zimbabwe we make peanut butter chicken with sadza (pap). It’s a delicious chicken stew with a subtle hint of creamy peanut butter, add some fresh chilli and its heavenly! Makes me miss home!
8.What does your name mean?
The origin is widely debated, but Kimberley seems to be a borrowing of the name of the South African city and diamond-mining centre. I don’t have any problem with my name being inspired by diamonds – which girl would (he he he).
9.If you had one super power what would it be and why?
To stretch the hours in a day… honestly days don’t feel long enough. If I had more time, I’d be able to do more, have more time for family & friends, travel more… that would be great!
10.If you weren’t a famous media personality what would you be?
I don’t know about being called “famous” ha ha ha, but I am very passionate about creating beautiful content. Thus I’m very hands on, not only on all social media but in the shows I host on MTV & MTV Base. So if I was not in front of the camera, I’d be behind it – producing and creating entertaining and meaningful content.
